The practices found in this membership are meant to bridge the gap between awareness and action and take you deeper into your wellness journey. They will gently guide you through healing and recovery from the following (not limited to):

Anxiety, stress, burnout, grief, life transitions, depression, trauma, former abuse, low self-worth, chronic pain, eating disorder recovery, addiction recovery, etc.

Movement therapies and information found in this membership are not quick fixes, but instead are meant to be practiced regularly and with consistency to have a positive result. As with any new skill, practice helps us learn and grow. These exercises are teaching the autonomic nervous system a new skill.

Also recommended while in active therapy or just out of active therapy with a mental health provider and/or during and after treatment of mood/emotional disorders and addictions. Always use caution when engaging in physical activity.

“The problem survivors experience with their bodies . . . . splitting, numbing, addictions, began as attempts to survive. You cut off from your body for good reasons, but now you need to heal . . . . to move from estrangement from the body to integration.”

— Bass & Davis, The Courage to Heal, 1988, p.208

FAQs

  • The practices, movements, and exercises found in this membership are meant to help the autonomic nervous system find tools for regulation, but are definitely not quick fixes to anything. They are meant to be practiced with consistency to see results. They are also meant to help in the “action” phase of therapy to offer a bottom up approach to healing. It is highly recommended to use these practices while in active therapy with a professional or after long term therapy and recovery.

  • “Bottom up” is simply a term used to describe approaches to therapy that focus on a person’s internal experience and awareness to rewire behavior patterns, etc. Allowing the body and felt senses to lead the way towards healing, the belief that change happens in the body. Alternatively, top-down approaches are using external tools to teach new skills. For example, cognitive behavioral therapy. There is no right or wrong way, but there is more science coming out that the two approaches combined can be powerful healing tools. This is why these “bottom up,” embodied practices found in this membership are great to practice while in active therapy.

  • “Somatic” is a term used to describe a bottom up approach to therapy that incorporates mindfulness and awareness of the felt senses within us to find healing from different experiences. The “felt senses” could mean awareness of bodily sensations, movements, images, colors, patterns, textures, etc. To learn more about somatic therapies check out The Body Keeps the Score, by Van Der Kolk, and Waking the Tiger by Peter Levine.

  • Polyvagal theory is a model of therapy that focuses on a bottom up approach to healing by using neuroscience to regulate the autonomic nervous system. Specifically, this model focuses on the vagus nerve and how it directly communicates to our brains about what is safe or not safe. Check out Safe and Sound by Steve Porges, Accessing the Healing Power of the Vagus Nerve by Stanley Rosenberg.
